Update: March 12, 2020. Peter Mulvey has postponed his tour due to the coronavirus pandemic. We will update the concert lineup when we have the new date for his performance at Sleder’s.

Sleder’s Family Tavern is pleased to announce singer-songwriter Peter Mulvey will perform on the porch Sunday, March 22 at 5:00 p.m. Peter is touring in support of his latest album, The Trouble with Poets 20th Anniversary Reissue. In 2000, The Trouble with Poets, co written with guitarist/composer/producer, David Goodrich, became an instant fan favorite. Mulvey’s acoustic guitar and urgent baritone perfectly complimented Goodrich’s rich, atmospheric improvisations. Now, twenty years later, Peter is taking the record back on the road to accompany its reissue on CD and a first ever vinyl edition. Peter will be performing the songs from the record as well as songs from the dozen records that he has released since.

Raised working-class Catholic on the Northwest side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, it was during a semester in Ireland that Peter Mulvey began his music career as a busker on the streets of Dublin, Ireland. After returning stateside, he performed in the subways and streets of Boston, Massachusetts, and this led to his first record deal and a leap to full-time national and international touring beginning in the early 1990s.

Restless and inventive, Peter Mulvey has made eighteen records spanning rock and roll, folk, jazz, spoken word, and Americana. He goes on an annual autumn tour by bicycle, emcees festivals, hosts his own boutique festival (the Lamplighter Sessions in Boston and Wisconsin), and has built his life’s work on collaboration and on an instinct for the eclectic and the vital. His decades-long association with the National Youth Science Camp also led to a spoken word piece, “Vlad the Astrophysicist,” which became a TEDx talk and an illustrated book.

Peter has opened for luminaries such as Ani DiFranco, Emmylou Harris, and Chuck Prophet, and in 2015, Peter Mulvey’s song, “Take Down Your Flag,” dedicated to the victims of the shooting at the AME Emanuel Church reached 200,000 people when many songwriters, including Ani DiFranco, Anais Mitchell, Keb’ Mo, Paula Cole, and Jeff Daniels, re-wrote the middle verse and posted their own videos of the song. This movement led to an online benefit concert and a deepening of the friendship between Peter and Ani DiFranco. Early in 2016 DiFranco produced Are You Listening? which was released on Righteous Babe Records.

Peter Mulvey continues to tour, playing over a hundred shows a year as he has for the past twenty five years. This is the core of what he does: music, in a room, performed for a live audience.  The Sleder’s porch will be the perfect listening room to enjoy and celebrate The Trouble With Poets.
