Sleder’s Family Tavern is pleased to announce Leelanau singer-songwriter, Dennis Palmer, will be performing on the porch May 19th at 4 pm. The concert is a CD Release Party for Palmer’s latest recording, Untethered, and everyone who buys a ticket to the concert will receive a free copy! Dennis will be joined by several great guest musicians during the performance.
Palmer has released five CDs of original music ranging from acoustic blues to contemporary folk. The Northern Express heralds Palmer as “a thoughtful, multi-talented singer-songwriter.” With an eclectic style that is both introspective and thought provoking, his music has raised comparisons to such artists as Gordon Lightfoot and Warren Zevon.
Palmer obtained his 15 minutes of fame in 1988 by winning a national songwriting contest with the song “Bird of Prey.” His song “Life’s Highway” was also included on the Northern Michigan Songwriters compilation CD Risin’ Shine. In the Summer of 2002, Palmer collaborated with playwright Dave Kahn to write and record acoustic instrumental music for the play: The Cherry Buggy Whip.
Born and raised near Saginaw, Dennis grew up listening to artists such as Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, Nat King Cole, and the Everly Brothers. His father was a big Country Music fan, but his mother also had an ear for Popular Music of the time. Listening to his parents’ record collection is one of his earliest memories. Later it was bands like the Beatles and Buffalo Springfield that inspired him to learn to play guitar and start writing his own songs. Those two bands continue to influence his writing style today. Dennis Palmer now lives in Leelanau County among the places and people that continue to inspire much of his music.
Sleder’s Porch will make a great setting to appreciate the music and creativity of Dennis Palmer and many of the songs on his newly released CD, Untethered.
*All paying ticket holders will receive a copy of the new CD “Untethered.”
