Hymnals. What's it about?
You've heard about walking around in the other fella's shoes?
Well, if you really want to know somebody, sing a song from their hymnal!
Quoting from the liner notes:
"It’s a full 500 years now since Luther famously nailed his theses to the door and split his church asunder. Theology aside, Western music has never been the same since. The Reformation in Europe ushered in radical new ideas of hymnody and song; in the fertile soil of North America those ideas took root in ways that no one could have predicted. Hymns of the seekers, spirituals of the oppressed, anthems of the revived, and the rousing gospel of the redeemed – they all continue to swirl in the great melting pot. Their choruses echo in stained glass cathedrals and in lowly store-front missions. Their themes are repeated in symphonic concerts and in corner juke joints; the same tune throttled on Sunday’s pipe organ gets pounded on Saturday night’s guitar.
If you know me, then you know that in these past forty years of recording, I’ve often woven songs of faith into my mix of original and traditional music. It’s just my natural fabric. At long last, in this album, I am shining full light on the wellspring that has informed so much of my musical life. This collection represents a wide variety of inspiration and traditions, different dogma and creeds.
Different hymnals. Same hope."
With Joel's magic on guitar and vocals, this will be a fine afternoon of music, both thought provoking and heartfelt, guaranteed to touch the soul of every audience.

Sleder's Family Tavern is delighted to announce the next performance in their ongoing 'on the porch' concert series featuring, Andre Villoch. The show is set for Sunday December 3rd, 2017 at 4 p.m. at Sleder's Tavern in Traverse City.
For years André Villoch has performed in Michigan and Indiana as a musician, actor, and comedian. As a Singer-Songwriter, André delivers a fun performance of original material with a percussive guitar and a lyrical voice. If you like laughing and good foot-tapping tunes, then an André Villoch show is for you.
While studying at Ball State University he worked as a writer, actor, director, and troupe musician in the university's premiere comedy troupe Absolunacy, where he was voted Member of the Year in 1997. After Absolunacy, he went on to work with the professional comedy troupes Charlemagne and the Concrete Ballet and The Collective as the primary musical force for each.
All was not comedy in college for Andre. He also performed regularly in the bands Robin Goodfellow and June Star as a bassist, guitarist, and vocalist. Here he began to develop his acoustic solo act, as well as a witty rapport with a live audience in the coffee houses and bars of Muncie, IN. One of André's songs, Take, Hold, Listen appears in the student-produced film The Way Out.
After leaving Ball State André moved to Northern Michigan to join some of his favorite folk and rock acts in a lively and intimate music scene. He has performed with local greats New Third Coast, Angela Josephine, Andy Six, and Jenny Thomas. Though often playing solo he can be seen with Dennis Palmer and Nick Talantis in the folk trio Wonderdog. André has opened for Chris Smither, Jill Jack, Michael Jerome Browne, and Dana Cooper.
In 2003 André released his first album, Gum Wrapper Roses, which is now heard in twelve countries (including Antarctica). André showed his versatility in April of 2007, performing an Italian Aria while touring with the The Solar Trio, featuring Crispin Campbell, Grammy winner Paul Sullivan, and Gabe Bolkosky. André released his second album Roadworthy in June 2007 and followed that up with Live at the Wah, released in 2009.
Andre's show is a great way to kick off the Holiday season as it will be a show of 'good cheer' for one and all. This festive show is set for Sunday December 3rd, 2018 at 4 p.m. at Sleder's Tavern which is located at 717 Randolph Street in Traverse City. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets are available at Sleder's, Oryana Food Cooperative and Brilliant Books. For tickets or more info call: 947-9213
"[André] was a sheer delight. Professional in every way, a voice full of honey and cream, and a heart full of love and joy. What more could you ask for?"
-Grammy winner Paul Sullivan
"Sleder's Family does not purchase music licensing from BMI/ASCAP//SESAC, musicians can only play their own music (YOU wrote it and YOU control the copyright) or their own renditions (YOU arranged it and YOU control the copyright) of public domain material. Make sure all musicians playing with you know this."
